Our charism

“Go to the whole world”

A Marist charism lived in community: set apart for mission, inspired by Mary, sent beyond every border.

Set apart for mission

Missionaries: this is the primary calling of the Missionary Sisters of the Society of Mary. It was for mission that the first sisters of various nationalities came to Rwanda.

Today situations change, the world evolves, and so do the methods of evangelization; but missionary activity still represents the greatest challenge of the Church.

Our activities

Inspired by Mary

Our Congregation has received a particular mandate in the Church to take part in evangelization in the spirit of Mary: through missionary presence, through living and proclaiming the Word, and through apostolic service.

Approved as an Institute of Pontifical Right in 1931, it continued to spread until it reached Rwanda in 1981.

Our history

Sent in small communities

To live the Gospel beyond every border, we form small communities of fraternal and missionary life.

Among other peoples or in our own country, we strive to be bonds of communion between peoples, races and cultures — witnesses of universal love.
